How to think about self-funding home businesses

Before I give you the list of our recommended self-funding home based businesses, I want to make an important point. When I call a business "self-funding" I mean that you pay a fixed amount (either a one-time or a fixed recurring fee) and you do not have to pay any more money until the business is making money.

I can tell you that most businesses I review do not qualify as self-funding home based businesses. Most businesses talk about low start-up fees but once you start them you find out that you actually have to pay quite a bit of additional money in advertising costs, special tools, or other expenses.

This is worth repeating: our definition of a self-funding home based business is this: a business where you pay a *fixed amount* (either one time or on a recurring basis) and you do not have to pay any more money until the business is making money.

This is important because you know going in exactly how much money you will have to put into the business. No surprises. No hidden costs. No gotchas.

Next step - Invest a portion of your profits back into your business

At some point you will want to invest a percentage of your profits back into the business, but there is no need to do so until the business is making money at which time you take some money out for yourself and put the rest back towards building the business.

Self-funding businesses and your mindset

Even though most of these businesses are low-cost businesses, I believe it's better to have the mindset that the businesses are "self-funding".

The problem is that when you think of home based businesses as "low-cost" or "cheap" it tends to implant the idea in your head that you will not make a lot of money with the business.

However, when you think of a home based business as self-funding you are immediately thinking about the fact that you will be growing the business over time.

Stop wasting money on overpriced systems

I can't believe the number of people who spend $200, $300, or even $2,000 on ridiculous money making systems. Don't do it! When I show people the facts about self-funding home businesses they are stunned to find out how inexpensive they can be.
