Transcription Of Michael Brown’s Video – How Much Does It Cost To Build A Website

Is It Hard To Build A Website?

Michael Brown here, and I have a special presentation today for you. And the presentation is going to cover “Is It Hard To Build A Website?”, because it’s a question I get from time to time and I figured I’d adress that in a video for you.

The answer to that is: No. It’s not hard to build a website.

What we use is a something called a WYSIWYG editor. And what that stands for is “What You See Is What You Get”. And the beauty of that is there is no coding required – it is all done for you behind the scenes.

Now, back in 1995 – you know, the “good old days” of the Internet – you had to know how to code things. You had to know how html coding and if you didn’t know it, well, you weren’t going to be able to build a website.

Well, nowadays it’s much easier because there’s no coding involved. All that is done in the background and you point and click and type where you want things. We use something called WordPress which installs in just a few seconds – it’s very easy to use. So, building a website in today’s world is easy to compared to back in the day – in fact, it’s very, very simple. And back when I first got started I had no idea how to do it and I basically taught myself how to use WordPress – and it’s very, very simple to use.

Is It Expensive To Build A Website?

Another question I get involving the website: “Is it expensive to build a website?” And the answer to that is also “no”. And one of the main reasons is because we use free themes (designs) so you don’t have to go pay a designer a bunch of money to build you a theme for your website – or build the design of your website. You don’t need to have anyone do that, because not only is the platform free that we’re using, the themes are free as well. So, you don’t have to spend a fortune – in fact, you don’t have to spend any money to build any of that…it’s absolutely free.

And you can also change your theme in just a couple of minutes at any time. And, that way you can change the entire look and layout of your website in just a matter of minutes, instead of how it used to be. You used to have to take weeks on end to change all of the pages on your website. It’s not like that anymore. It’s extremely simple to do.

What Are The costs?

Now, let’s look at what the costs are.

Well, you need a domain. And a domain is basically something like www.google.com, www.youtube.com – OK. Those are domain names. And what you’ll end up doing is you’ll buy a domain name – and it’s about

$10/year.

And then you will host that domain at a hosting service which is $10/month. And you don’t have to have any additional expenses involved in that. It’s just $10/month and you can host unlimited websites there. So, if you had a 100 websites, your hosting bill is still just going to be $10 per month. So, it’s extremely cheap to do that. And there are no other fees that you need to have when you’re doing this – when you’re building your website. But you’ll need that $10/year domain and you’ll need that $10/month hosting.

And that is why I love making money on the Internet. I love building websites because it’s lucrative, because those start up costs are extremely low, and the risk is extremely low. You’re only out – if you decide you don’t want to do it any more, you’re barely out any money, because you’ve barely put any money into it. So, it’s extremely cheap to get started.

Free Hosting? Don’t do it!

Now, there are programs out there that say they offer free hosting. There also are just free hosting platforms. But here’s why you don’t want to build your business on a free hosting platform. And this is extremely important that you listen to me, because if you use free hosting, you’re at that free hosting’s mercy – no matter who’s giving it to you, you’re at their mercy.

If they don’t like what your website’s about, they don’t like the content of your website, they just disagree with anything…they can shut your website down without warning and you can’t get your files back. They’re gone. You’ve lost your website that you put out there. You’re at their mercy if you’re on their hosting. And you have absolutely no control over this.

And I know you might be thinking, “well, this probably won’t happen to me”. Well, a couple years ago I actually know a guy who had a six figure business that he built using a free platform – a free hosting platform. And what ended up happening is that the company that was offering this didn’t like what he was putting on his website, shut his website down, and instantly his six figure business was gone. And he had no way to get it back.

He asked them and they said, “No, you’re not getting it back. We didn’t like what you had on your site. It’s gone.” So, it ended that way.

You have to end your own hosting account. You must own your own hosting. Don’t go the cheap way and try to get out of the $10/month fee. $10 is all you’ve got to pay. Just do it and avoid having the hardships that this particular guy endured because he was using somebody else’s free hosting account.

So, owning your own hosting is extremely important when you’re building your business…when you’re building your website.
