3 Social Media Mistakes You Must Avoid at All Costs

Are you mucking up your social media campaign? Do you repel potential customers or clients with your social media marketing strategy? Knowing what not to do is as important as knowing what to do.

This distinction is critical for online entrepreneurs to make. By avoiding low energy practices you can engage in high energy practice. The secret? Spotting your desperation early on in your internet marketing campaign.

As you build your social media campaign you are likely to receive poor advice from most folks. Push your opportunity. Post your links all day long. Strain, strive, work harder, work longer, force things, push things. This is absolutely the wrong way to go about things.

Force negates. This means as you force things, or try too hard, you make your job much harder down the road. You force, you push your link on people, you send unsolicited emails to people, and people sprint away from you. You repel, instead of attracting.

What mistakes should you avoid like the plague?

Unsolicited Messages

Sending unsolicited Facebook or Twitter messages to individuals is a boo boo. This is viewed as spam. Why would you send a pitch message to someone? Because you are desperate, you are needy, you have no intelligent strategy in place. These reasons repel the average social media user.

You hate spam. You waste your time reading messages that do not interest you. You hate spammers, because these people waste your time, and their time. This annoying, low energy practice kills your reputation. Stop it.

Posting Business Messages on Walls

Even worse than an unsolicited message is posting your business link on the wall of a Facebook buddy. This is social media suicide. You are simply using someone as a tool, using their wall to reach a large number of new folks, and totally killing a relationship in the process.

Think of it this way: this person might have spent years building up a massive network of successful people. What gives you the right to piggyback on their success? This practice is lame, repulsive, and lazy, and will kill any relationship you built with the person. The disrespect you show by using them, and all their hard work, to try to make financial gain as a lazy jerk, will not be tolerated by any successful entrepreneur. Stop it.

This one practice will destroy your business more quickly than you can even imagine. Not only will you damage your relationship with your supposed tool/friend, you will kill your reputation in the eyes of hundreds or thousands of their friends. Avoid this low energy technique at all costs, because it makes you look desperate, and needy, and this is not a good look for a supposed successful online or offline entrepreneur.

Non Stop Pictures

It’s funny, posting images here and there might be the most powerful social media attention grabbing strategy. Nobody can resist eye candy. Yet, if you post image after image, posting 10, 20 or 30 large pictures daily, you will turn off your following at a quick clip.

Unless you are a photographer showing off your work, never post more than 5 images daily. Although they might be beautiful you need to bring something more to the table in order to prosper on social networks. Endless image posting lacks creativity; you are not giving anybody anything of real value, unless you start writing blog posts, or articles, or shooting videos, along with simply posting images.

Express your creative nature. Write. Then, post a few images each day to capture the attention of your audience, but don’t go overboard.

Avoid these mistakes to prosper using social media.

In addition to creating a page for the business on Facebook and Twitter, owners should also consider investing in Facebook advertising. Facebook advertising does include a slight cost, but it works differently than ordinary advertising for a couple of reasons. First of all, the business’s account is only billed when a reader clicks on the company’s advertisement. However, some people might buy a product from the business without even clicking on the advertisement. Another thing that separates Facebook advertisements from other sources is the ability to target a niche. People will notice that the advertisements they see on their personal Facebook accounts strongly correlates to interests on their page or things they have searched via the Internet.

With Facebook and Twitter, businesses now have a new form of advertising that might be the best option ever. The nice thing about using both of these platforms to market a small business is that the pages are free, and the optional Facebook advertising costs can be kept to a minimal.
