Affiliate Marketing Basics for Beginners

Learn Affiliate Marketing Basics With this Simple Guide

Some of you already know that one of the more popular training programs I’ve recommended at WorkAtHomeTruth is Michael Brown’s free course Unleashing Your Success which teaches people how to make money promoting products owned by other people or other companies. He also shows people simple ways to make money from easy to set up websites through ready-to-go advertising programs. In other words, you don’t have to go out and find the advertisers that will pay you to advertise on your website – it’s all plug and play simple.

These are just a couple of ways every day people are earning through affiliate marketing, which is still one of the major revenue drivers of large online retailers, small businesses, and even individuals. Affiliate marketing is not what many link posting scams claim it is. However, it’s also not terribly complicated either – in fact, with the right training course, there’s no reason why many of the people reading this post can’t learn how to make money through through affiliate marketing.

How Online Affiliate Marketing Works

There are various types of affiliate marketing business models, although one one of the more popular one involves a website owner placing links or ads on the websites they have built in order to promote a particular product or service. Whenever somebody purchases the promoted product through that link or ad, the product owner pays the website owner (the affiliate) a percentage of the price of the product or service sold. However, there are a several other ways an affiliate can earn income as well.

Various Ways Affiliate Marketers Earn Money:

Contextual Advertising

Traditionally, contextual advertising has meant ads that were displayed automatically based on an algorithm that would figure out what a page is about. One of the largest contextual advertising programs is Adsense, a program run by Google in which you place a little bit of code on various parts of your website and are paid whenever somebody clicks on the ads you’ve placed. It’s very simple to set up and doesn’t require you to contact potential advertisers. Today, there are other forms of contextual advertising, which include banners, popups, popunders, an

Pay Per Lead

With Pay Per Lead you are paid for driving potential customers to a business. You’ll often find this in service industries such as plumbing, HVAC installation, cosmetic surgery, and educational institutions. There are actually thousands, if not tens of thousands of industries that use a pay per lead affiliate business model.

Zip Code Submits

With zip code submits you are paid whenever somebody fills in their zip code on a form you link to from your site or include on your site. You’ll often find this business model used for various types of insurance companies.

eMail Submits

Here you are paid when somebody submits an email to a form that you link to from your site or include on your site. You need to be careful when promoting eMail submits, because sometimes this kind of affiliate arrangement is used by spammers to gain email subscribers.

Pay Per Install

This is a controversial business model, although there are several aspects of it nowadays that are completely legitimate. What differentiates a legitimate pay per install or PPI business model vs one that is simply a scam has to do with whether or not the software distributed this way is distributed with malicious intent or not and whether or not what is being installed is explicitly disclosed.

Building an Affiliate Marketing Website – Not Nearly as Difficult as You Might think

If you are wondering about how to build affiliate marketing websites, you’ll be relieved to know that it’s not as complicated as you might think. In fact, Michael Brown’s Unleashing Your Success program shows you how to get an affiliate marketing website up and running quickly and painlessly. Most people are much too worried about making their website look perfect. The truth is, many plain and simple websites make more money than professional looking sites. You’d be stunned at how much money some very ordinary looking affiliate websites bring in on a regular basis.

Instant Income System Research

October 29, 2014 By Paul (Founder, WorkAtHomeTruth) Leave a Comment

It’s hard to read through the Instant Income System emails without laughing out loud. That being said, I would love to hear from people who have tried the system to get their perspective.

Call me crazy, but aren’t the following two statements contradictory?

Statement #1 – Just 15 Minutes Per Day.

Here’s a line from one of the first emails I received about Instant Income System:

“Below is the email I sent to you yesterday..
==========================================

It really is true, all you need is two things..

1. You need to own a facebook account
2. You need to be willing to work about 15 mins a day!

We have created the most revolutionary system in
the network marketing industry!”

Statement #2 – At Least 20 Hours Per Month

Remember.. only if you are truly serious and you are
willing to out in at least 20 hours of work over the next month
No offense but I am not interested in working with people who
have quite frankly
Ridiculous expectations like…“Hey, I joined up, where is my paycheck”

Statement #3 – Join The Instant Income System FaceBook Group So You Can See Why You Should Join The Instant Income System FaceBook Group

I’m not kidding. This was the most recent email I got from Joel Therien:

“It really is true, all you need is two things..

1. You need to own a Facebook account
2. You need to be willing to work about 15 mins a day!

We created a demo video of the Instant Income System
in action!

But it is a private video for Facebook members only!”

Umm…so you have to join the FaceBook group to see why I should join the FaceBook group?

It’s MathMagical!

Last time I checked 15 minutes per day times 30 days came to roughly (OK, EXACTLY) 7.5 hours per month.  In all fairness, maybe Joel’s not very good at math. All of this kind of reminds me of the famous Jack Handey quote:

“Broken promises don’t upset me. I just think, why did they believe me?”

Pure Leverage Products

The types of products Pure Leverage sells are useful for running an online business. However, since I don’t have experience with them, I can’t comment about the quality of the products.  Also, there are value comparisons given on the sales page and I’m not sure how the values of the products were determined.

If you have experience with the products, please provide details in the comments section below.

Here is the Pure Leverage product set as of 10/29/2014:

How Those ‘One Weird Trick’ Ads Make Money

November 26, 2013 By Peter Andrews - Contributor To WorkAtHomeTruth Leave a Comment

One Weird Trick MemeAnyone who uses the web regularly will have by now come across the ‘one weird trick’ adverts. These ads sit in the corner of the screen on all manner of different sites in various niches, and offer a range of benefits all achievable through ‘one weird trick’. Whether it’s getting more hair, flattening your stomach, building muscle or overcoming diabetes it would seem that there’s apparently ‘one weird trick’ that can help you.

Most of us of course are smart enough not to pay them much attention. We all know that if there really was a single trick that could do any of these things then the world would know about it – secrets don’t tend to stay secret very long on the web.

But while most won’t be foolish enough to actually click any of these links, most people have probably wondered at some point how these campaigns work – and just how they make their money if so.

So what happens if you click one?

The Routine

While these ads all offer very different things, they also tend to follow a largely predictable pattern. Click on one of the links and you will normally be directed to a page with an auto-playing video that you can’t pause or even skip. The video will use a lot of marketing hype and hyperbole to make sure you feel compelled to watch on (despite being around 15-30 minutes long!) but will take forever to get to the actual ‘solution’ that it promises you.

Once you’ve gotten through the video, if you have survived that long, you’ll learn that the ‘one weird trick’ normally involves buying a book or alternatively some kind of magic shake, pill or remedy. Which of course costs money and is where the advertisers make their money.

But in order to make their ads that prominent, chances are that the marketers have spent a great deal of money and it’s amazing to think that such shoddy and transparent ads could earn them enough to pay off this debt. It must work, but how can this long winded and frankly weird strategy pay the bills?

The Power of ‘Shoddy’

CC BY-ND 2.0 by funfilledgeorgie (contact)

When I went to a car boot sale once, I quickly learned that it can sometimes pay to look unprofessional. I found that my books, DVDs and ornaments would actually sell better if I left them in a pile with zero organisation. Why was that? Because this made it appear as though I didn’t know what I was doing – as though I might be the sort of person to accidentally sell something for much less than its worth.

Furthermore, having my items in a messy heap gave my visitors the option to ‘sort through’ what I had on offer in order to find that hidden gem themselves. People love sifting through things, and the very act of looking through meant they were psychologically committing themselves to my stall – after spending that much time chances are that they would buy something.

Some very similar things are going on with the ‘one weird trick’ ads. Usually these ads look low-res and badly designed, which tells the potential clickers that they might offer good value. At the same time the fact that the trick is ‘weird’ makes it more believable that it might be something other people had missed up until now (and also piques interest in most cases).

Meanwhile that super-long video has the same effect as routing through a pile of useless DVDs – you are committing time to the process, becoming more impatient, and thus you will want some kind of ‘payoff’ once you get to the end (meaning you’ll have to buy something).

Sieving Your Audience

Of course there are plenty of people like you and me who simply won’t fall for this transparent strategy. To us this is a clear trick that will offer know value and may well infect our computers with viruses. 99% of people ignore those ads – but that’s just fine as far as the marketers are concerned.

The low-quality look of the ads you see has the effect of turning off certain members of the public meaning they won’t click them. That’s good news for the marketers because they pay for these adverts per click. The people who do click though, and then who are willing to sit right through the long spiel of the videos, are the kinds of people who are likely to be more trusting and to spend more money on things. And these are precisely the kinds of people that those marketers want to do business with…
